These people sure do. So much, in fact, they are creating a mod to bring them back in L4D-2. While it's a work in progress, it's pretty darn interesting:

[edit]hmmm...there seems to be a feeling on some places that the original survivors will be non-playable AI characters. I hope this is incorrect--I have not seen any language from Valve to suggest one way or 'tother. [/edit]

I hope so. I like the new features of the new l4d, but i'm not too fond of the characters. I really liked Francis because he just has a bad attitude about everything

I don't have the same attachment to the originals, since I played the L4D2 demo before every playing L4D1, but that being said, I love Ellis's stories.
