View Full Version : Which Class do you prefer?
Which class do you like to play as, Assault, Support...?
And when and on which maps do you like to play diefferent classes?
What is good about a particular class?
Any tips or tricks for a class?
I prefer Special Ops. The MP5 with zoom is nice and I absolutely LOVE detpacks.
Unfortunately, with the current state of DC, it doesn't make sense to be anything but Anti-Armor.

Roger that.
There aren't enough good reasons (other that the assault guy on Docks or Lost Village)...to be anything other than anti-armor.
The stinger is zoomable, and very fast - and is good anti-personnel device.
Also, if you have the RPG and Stinger hot keyed, you get 2 shots quickly in case you miss a soldier. Then you get stuck with the pistol...which is pretty devastating after you soften a guy up with the RPG/Stinger.
They may balance it in the next patch.
Yes, F7, I've noticed you like the detpacks. Several times!
Yeah, I've been in a couple games where everybody is running around with RPGs and they can use them like sniper rifles. I was reading something about the DC team changing the balance of the RPG to make it less effective against infantry. Anybody else hear that? Will that be a part of .39?

I think the trouble with making rpgs less effective against infantry is not the way to go. Lets face it. if you get hit with an rpg, you should be dead. I think that to do it properly, the RPG should be inaccurate as all get out. That would be more realistic, though would not be all that good for game balance.
I'm into sniper at the moment-- though I could see in clan play that I'd enjoy any multiplayer role like gunner in a tank, chopper, etc. Long range artillery. Anything requiring teamplay of 2 or more.

I play every class about evenly except for sniper. It just depends on the situation.

Depends on what I am doing in the map.
If its Naval and I am on a boat, I always go as Support.
If I am going to be in an Artillery pc for most of the game, I will also do Support.
If there is a kick-ass Artillery person on the map, then Sniper or SpecOps.
If I am running aorund in Armour, or in a BMP/ Bradly, I will either be Anti-Tank or Assault.
Anti-Air then Anti-Tank class (love the Stinger).
It also depends on who I have on my team; if its someone like F7, I know I dont need to be SpecOps cause he has that covered. And if Ink is on my team, I wont be Assault (unless its that type of map; i.e., Berlin).
The only class I dont play is Heavy Assault because they borked the gun.

I'd say 80-90% of the time I'm support. I like being able to keep my tank alive if I survive a battle.
Plus I'm starting to get used to the shotgun. This class used to have the M249.
But if I ever hear a "medic" or "repairs" call; if I'm able too, I'll try to get to your location.
I'll switch to Anti-Armor if we need it or assault if it's just one of those can't hit a damn-thing days.
Lets face it. if you get hit with an rpg, you should be dead. I think that to do it properly, the RPG should be inaccurate as all get out.
Then again, 1-2 shots from an MP5 or M16 should do anyone in however with the way things are, it takes 12+ hits.
Increased RPG inaccuracy would make me happy. :) Anything other than watching 36 people wielding RPGs and Bazookas...that just sucks.

I also was support in my last game.
I was surprised what a difference it made to fix anything smoking. Teammates went back and used whatever I fixed....kind of cool.
I don't think I ever heard anyone call for a medic

I was an engineer much more in the original without the DC mod. My vehicles seem to die much too fast to fix; I end up bailing and going on foot.
You won't get many team play medic/engineer types helping on the public servers. I fix friendlies/vehicles when possible and always say thanks when someone does the same for me. Good karma.

How do you see them running around with rocket launchers when they're all in aircraft? :p

I love Special Ops. Explosives make for some good fun for opposing enemies or aritillery.
I kind like the sheer cover fire you can lay down with he Heavy Assault class as well.

Since we are all pinned down anyway, lay down some Heavy Assault, it will draw every eye your way as your team goes around and kills them all...I love the sneakiness of it all ;)

Unless the enemy is playing Anti-armor and Special forces...?

Why is Tobruck and Inshallah Valley so one-sided (advantage) to Opposition? Too many tanks...
I used to like the heavy assault and used it all the time, but ever since they changed it I use it the least. Changes to heavy assault: very little damage to copters, overheats, and only 100 round box clips. Sometimes I will use it on Docks for long distance or on Weapons bunkers to stop jeeps.
Sniper is boring. Unless I have a particular reason to use it, I won't.
Tank + wrench in most cases if it's a tank map. Just because there are tanks on a map doesn't mean it's a tank map. I'll also use anti-tank on these maps (of course). If a copter takes me out I'll spawn back with a stinger. If I can pick up a rifle after the copter/tank is down I will. The weapons boxes are a nice idea, but the 2 choices on oil rigs beats the bocage one way solution.
I've mostly gone back to Assault and Special Ops. Oil Rigs: I'll use Assault and If needed dip into the weapons boxes. Kharkov: I'll always go with Special Ops. The main problem with using Special Ops all the time is the rifle isn't very good for long distances and on some maps they only have 10 and 20 shot clips. Plus only the Coalition rifle has a silencer so sometimes it depends on which side I'm on.
I switch between 3 or 4 classes on many maps.

Why is Tobruck and Inshallah Valley so one-sided (advantage) to Opposition? Too many tanks...Coalition has more tanks at the start on Tobruk: 2 Abrams and 4 Bradleys vs. 1 T-72 and 3 BMP-2s. However, they're spread out amongst the outposts so once opp starts taking flags, opp gets them and coalition quickly becomes outnumbered in armor. However, the worst unbalancer on that map is the MI-8 (opp's heli spawn point). It makes it easy to rush the village/base coalition flag early in the game. If coalition defends it, they have fewer players defending the outposts and lose tickets faster. If they don't, opp takes it and costs coalition the game because almost half their armor is at that flag and they're fighting a war on two fronts. However, if it's played like a push map where opp takes the outpost flags first and works their way back to the base, coalition can fall back and regroup. It rarely happens, but Tobruk is usually more fun that way than when the whole opp team has 10 tanks hunting down the last coaltion sniper.
Inshallah Valley... opp getting T-72s and coalition Bradleys made sense before 0.6 when coalition had the insta-tank-killer Apache and opp had the sluggish Hind. But it doesn't any more with the Littlebird. Now it is unbalanced because the T-72 can own the map early on, and once the north flag is taken coalition has to face two of them.

Tobruck seems that way, but it's a BF:1942 map. It wasn't designed to be played with weapons as powerful as you find in DC. That's the problem with playing many of the original BF maps in DC, IMHO. And taking the helicopters out of Kharkov and calling it "Day 2" doesn't make it a DC map, contrary to opinions expressed last night on the GA server. It's all about the terrain, armament, and the distance between bases.
I think Inshallah valley is pretty balanced. I believe OpFor only gets the one tank. There is an OpFor advantage in that their heli base is perched on top of that hill, and there's no sneaky back way into it like there is at the Coalition side.
Am I the only one to notice that OpFor wins the game the majority of the time? It seems like it to me. I don't think there's an imbalance in weaponry, but it does seem that in most games, the people playing Coalition do a lot more plane & tank camping than the OpFor players do. Or worse, you're playing Coalition on Lost Village or Oil Rigs. You capture a flag or two and try valiantly to hold onto them, but 10 of the guys on your team just keep spawning back by the helicopters just so they can come back over and get blasted out the sky by yet another SMAW. :ink: I dunno, just an impression.

Oh, and as for classes: I switch between all but sniper pretty much throughout every game, depending on what's going on. Though I can't understand why Coalition SpecOps always gets that great CAR-15, while the OpFor guys sometimes have the VSS and that really crappy sawed-off AK or whatever the heck it is. That's things so useless I might as well be spitting on people and biting them.

I like support. Healing my teammates makes me feel useful because I can't shoot and hit any opponents.
Opposition starts with one tank at the lower river base. As soon as Op takes over the main blue base the Bradley spawn point spawns a T-72. That's the second tank. Two of those things can easily run the other two bases in the area. It's also very easy for Op to shut down the two bridges (downhill) whereas Coalition has no good position to hold the bridges. Also... there is only one way out of the Coalition base, so if you mine the entrance you bottle up your own vehicles (and will most likely kill half your own team by accident).

ah HA. I had forgotten about the second T-72 that spawns at the blue heli base. So, basically, that map is wildly skewed toward OpFor. You've got to wonder if the guys who designed these maps ever tried playing them with people outside their own company before they released them. I'm thinking some of the glaring flaws in the maps would've been pretty obvious.
