Since there is a link to the playground here I will ask. What the hell happened to server 3. Server 1 has really started to suck to the point that it is no fun to play any more. Most of the old timers are never on any more and I understand why. I guess all things come to an end sooer or later and it becomes time to move on.
People complaine, camp in corners with the shock and then are proud of thei high scores. I guess it is time to spend most free time playing on line poker, at least that is still fun...

I'm playing mostly BF1942 now. I went back and played UT a couple of nights ago (you were there, boobsie), and to me, it was just mindless mayhem....keyword being mindless.

Imagine this:

You spawn in front of a helo, on your radio, you hear the pilot say, "Get In!". You jump in and wait for 5 others until the chopper is full. The pilot lifts off and speeds across the lake to the village on the far side. On a command, everyone bails out of the helo and parachutes down. Once on the ground, an enemy base it taken over and you slowly advance through the town in urban warfare. Peeking around corners, ducking under hedges.

A teammate yells, "Enemy infantry spotted!".... and all hell breaks loose....

Think I'm kidding? Play the DC Lost Village map and you'll see what I mean. Ultimate teamwork, and tense action.

After playing this for a few weeks, I've found I need something to exercise my mind as well as my fingers. :D

That map rocks.

When your team is on, and you are going 2 by 2, street by street, it gets really intense.

Grenade launchers are fun.

I'll just pop in here and I'll add my 2 cents real quick since I was StealthDP reg at one time.

UT has just...changed. Well, okay.. the community has changed. I loved it when it was StealthDP's Playground. The community was smaller.

And I totally agree with Mikey. While I havent played BF1942, I've been playing PlanetSide. There is so much teamwork involved and huge worlds to explore. I'm constantly learning and having fun with it, despite the fact that I get killed almost instanteously in combat.

Man... I could turn that quote so many ways. http://burns.thefinaldimension.org/otn/evil/goodnevil.gif

PS: Boobs, I've just been taking a break from UT due to my uber suckiness on s3 and the unmentionables on s1. I even tried to hit another server to see what's out there and came back to UP simply because I feel too many others bot. Kinda like CS I guess. *shrug*

As for the Turk....

Well, Computers borked... I'm just using a old laptop to post messages at the moment.

As for UT... lord... that stopped a long time ago for me.

I also tried to start it up again a couple weeks ago ... and seriously got worked. (either I suck HARD or everyone just got really good)

Either way...
I've been playing alot of games in the past year ...
And I've been hosting alot of LANs (at least helping with the troubleshooting of broken computers)

BF1942 when it was released is the reason, I stopped playing UT. Also Warcraft3 (even though I'm not very good, game is fun)

Also this major Soulcaliber community here in my local area has me playing on the Dreamcast for 4 hours at some times.

I'm looking forward to Tron, Jedi Academy, and Soulcaliber 2.

But you know what....
This new site feels really comfortible, why, maybe cause it has all the great old friends that I remember from the past 2+ years in it. The guys that make the games I played special.

UT is the only online PC game i have played...ever.
I have been wanting to try something new. I hear so much about BF1942, but have never even seen a screenshot of it..no idea what it looks like.

I mean I get owned in UT...why not get owned by another game as well

I'm like Trax, my only online game was UT. Great game, still play it.

Just needed to try something new, BF'42 DC is a great game. I also love seeing familiar names in game too. That's the best part for me...w00ts!

My death ratio is probably the same, hehe. The game has been out about a year I was told, so yes there are way better players out there.

Team work & team speak makes the playing field a little more even, especially if you have Ink & EH on your side ;)

Food for though...

I've been slowly losing interest in UT. Mainly the people; more specifically, the cheaters. I KNOW there are some regs and even some people in the clans around UP that use cheats, whether it be some sort of aimbot or radar (which is very common). It sickens me.

What disappoints me even more is there seems to be a very lenient policy regarding kicking/banning on the UP servers. So basically, no name people get away with murder while the people who contribute to the UP community have to suffer. The policy of having to catch people in the act with a demo and undeniable proof. BOLLOCKS!

Whatever happened to it being a private community? I won't deny that I'm very competetive in game and it sometimes translates into me being a hardass, but I think that's the stance the admins at UP have to take to keep the Playground sacred. Boot the morons that people complain about day in and day out. Boot the people that get accused of botting 99% of the time by long-time regs. It's ridiculous how widespread idiots and cheaters have become and how they are allowed to get away with murder.

I know the day will inevitably come when this site gets as big, if not bigger than the Playground and I will most likely face the same dilemnas, however for the time being I'm making the most out of enjoying the cozy little family we have here now. :) All great faces and all wonderful people.

I remember that one. That was cool as hell all of us jumping out of the BlackHawk.

I could swear I heard "Flight of the Valkyries" when we were flying across the lake seeing the town begin to appear in the distance and as we all parachuted out directly into "the sh!t". :D

And then... Hey, GI. Me so horney. Love you long time. Sooooo, horney! C'mon Joe. Come upstairs. Long time!

I played on S1 last night and had a couple good games. Cyknus was there. Of course, it was 6 - 0 games, so I guess if you were on the losing team it suked. It's great to throw that xloc around and get across the map in 2 seconds - I want one for real life.

BOOBS I've been playing on S1 all along, but under alias'. Last night was the first time in a month or better I played as ShirleyFT.

I must say though, BF1942 attracts more peeps who want to play as a team. It's a great game. Cooperative play is making a comeback after 5 years of death match play. I remember a couple years back about the lack of cooperative play in games. The response was - "Cooperative play? WHY?" That about sums it up. But that's changing now for the better. It's nice to have somebody you can count on. ;)

UT is still fun. But if you play a game obsessively you will get burnt out if the gameplay consists primarily of fast movements and run and gun. It was obvious from the alpha leaks before UT2003 was released that UT2003 would not do well. Maybe UT2004 could compete with bf1942 but they need to make the game realistic and not kiddified for the under 12 Super Mario, pac man crowd :D

I'll probably pick up the full version of BF1942 when I get a new hard drive. Right now I just have the demo from when it was first released. Who knows maybe Half-Life2 mods will crush bf1942 since Half-Life2 can support huge environments and appears to run vehicles just as well while having much greater looking graphics than bf1942. Team games with large amounts of players with a good amount of strategy is the most fun :D

I agree with Milk, and I've been burnt out many times. :D

As horrible as some play maybe, I get on sometimes and have such a good game that it hurts that the game is over. UT kicked a$$ and I've had such great games that at times I was still laughing about them the next day. The translocator was a great tool. When I'm playing BF1942 I keep hitting my xloc button and, then, remember it isn't there.

Hell, I'd still be playing DOOMII if it weren't for those modeX 320 by 240 graphics (headache). :D
