I'm still getting used to the game and I keep changing my control settings. Post your control tips here.

This is one SoBe might like. Set your pistol to one of your mouse buttons (mouse 2, mouse 3), so you can pull it out during a slow reload (RPG). We were having an RPG duel and I got her by pulling the pistol during the long RPG reload. I have primary fire=mouse1, alt fire=mouse3, pistol=mouse2.

I'm still having a hard time with the aircraft. Many peeps use joysticks. How do you set your joystick and what type of joystick do you have.

You definately want a joystick for planes and helos. Makes all the difference.

I have a Thrustmaster F22. I think that is a little overkill for '42, but it works great.

My setup is like this:
Right hand is a Cyborg Gold (soon to be Evo).
Standard forward/dive, back/climb, twist/rudder setup for aircraft.
Trigger= Fire, Button 1= ALt-Fire, Button 2= Throttle increase, Button 3 is Throttle reverse.
Throttle is hooked up but only used for fine engine control.
HAT switch is used to select postions (pilot, gunner, ect).
If I am in a postion with a door, the twist opens/ closes it.

For Naval/ Land vehicles same thing as above except:
On Subs, twist=submerge/ surface
Landing craft, twist=open/ close door

For Soldier:
Joy left/ right= Strafe left/ right
Joy forward/ back= run forward/ back
HAT= main weapon selection
Trigger= Fire
Button 1= Alt-fire
Button 2= Jump
Button 3 = Crouch

At my left hand is a Kensington Expert Mouse Pro Trackball.
It has eleven programmable buttons for any of the other weps, and various actions (prone, enter/ exit, ect), and of course, FreeLook.

I also use the ball for fine adjustments in aircraft.

I'll have to wait a bit for a joystick. Those joysticks you mentioned cost more than the friggin game. Any good mid-priced joysticks out there (keep in mind I'm still semi-unemployed). :D

I'll use the joystick for flying, but I'll still have to use the mouse/keyboard for infantry - (can't teach an ole dog new tricks).

A Cyborg Gold is $29.99.
Once you wear that out(if you only use it for flying, then it should last awhile), grab yourself an F22 or a CH Fighterstick and some pedals.

Kewl Dood! 29.95 is only like a case and a half of Becks (measuring by the NY beer standard, of course).

Use the mouse!!! It's severely lacking precision but makes for LOTS OF LAUGHS! :)

Yes, I've been providing many of those laughs already. Like-- the upside down Apache into the ground trick, drunken jet pilot, and my favorite, flying an A10 upside down into the side of a mountain (getting pretty good at that one).

Flip the latch on top of Inks head, you'll find all you need there ;)

SFT -

I got a Freedom 2.4 cordless Logitech for about $39 at Costco.

The twisting function and 10 keys comes in useful. The 'twist' is good for rudder (steering planes out of hangars, and heli moves)...

Easy to set up.

You have to get better at bailing at the right moment, and you will hardly die. Teh chute opens pretty fast...but when your upside down it is really hard to pick the right moment.

LMAO! I'm very familiar with all of these. I don't know how many apaches I've destroyed just trying to land near a flag.

I've always used the mouse for flying, but then again I'm still using the arrow keys for movement (a holdover from UT). Hard to break old habits gaming-wise.

I got the Logitech Digital3D for $29 at Fry's and it works very well for flying. Also has twist and steer for rolls and turns and a profile manager download for various games, including 1942.

Buzzing Midway and almost dipping the wing into the water is pretty cool. Very easy to come out of a bad situation unlike the damn mouse.
