It's WWII. BF1942 is a very simplified version of WWII, where each side has similar equipment and numbers, and the behavior of weapons was designed to make it play more like a regular 3D action game.

Forgottonhope adds a lot of the different vehicles and weapons (some pretty obscure) that were left out of Bf1942, and supposedly the behavior of the weapons is more "realistic", although what that will actually mean is not totally clear.


There once was a BF1942 WWI mod called "Battlefield 1914" that merged with a MOHAA mod called "Trench Rats" but they seemed to have dropped the BF1942 version in favor of a halflife version. Go figure. They have made some very attractive screens, but they don't seem to have the manic energy of the Forgottonhope team.
