While the demo only has 1 SP level in it, it's pretty intense. It's an urban-warfare type level, in which you are part of a squad of guy working your way through German occupied grounds.

The graphics are awesome. I can see myself getting hooked on this game very easily. :D

I also liked it given it's shortness.

The most intense area of MoHAA was Omaha Beach. Artillery was dropping all over, your comrades were all around you being wounded, fighting, yelling, and trying to get to the top of the beach. Bullets whizzing by and explosions also really helped to grab you and pull you into the moment of the game.

I got this impression instantly playing Call of Duty. I really like the fact that you go through the game with a squad of soldiers. MoHAA was a great game, but one guy going from Africa ultimately to Berlin on solo missions was a bit...silly. Not to mention played out (pretty much all single player games revolve around you versus the world). Having the squad fighting alongside you made it that much easier to immerse you in the game. They killed enemies, took hits, sometimes died, and shouted out orders and directions of enemies they spotted.

I really like the iron sights and the historically accurate weapons. Germans shouting in German (convincingly too), the unique sounds of each weapon, believable grenade effects, and so on.

I'll definately be picking up this game. Hopefully there will be a multiplayer for it as well.

"Vince and Jason couldn't say much about the multiplayer modes yet, but they did let us know that we will have deathmatch, team deathmatch, and objective-based team modes to play through online. It doesn't sound like there will be any modes in which players cooperate against enemy AI, but they do plan on making up for that with an otherwise solid multiplayer mode and a long single-player campaign."

It's unbelievably good.

Crossing that first field, taking out the mg42's, the aftershock effect (muted sound, slowed movement) of being in the area of an incoming mortar round, then building to building, knowing that allies are covering you; great stuff.
Plus it looks incredible; the AA fire and the explosions when you take them out are really well done.

Can't wait for this one.

Anyone having problems with this demo and a Radeon 9700 pro? The demo would install just fine, but when launching it and getting to the main menu, all the words are garbled. Here are my specs:

P4 - 2.4 Ghz
1 GB RAM (Don't remember if it was PC2700 or PC3200)
ATI Radeon 9700 pro - Cat 3.6 drivers
Asus P4S8X - BIOS rev 1004
on-board sound - latest Asus drivers
on-board NIC - latest Asus drivers
Intelimouse Explorer 3.0

Yep, been on DX9.0b since it was out. Also, tried upgrading to the 3.7 Catalyst drivers yesterday as well for the Radeon, and it still didn't help. Grr, what's the deal? Though I can't see why it would matter, gonna try removing the JS and any other unnecessary peripherals to see if it works.

I am really impressed by the demo for three main reasons:

First, the obvious one: it's intense and fun and cool.

Second, despite being a really good looking game with a lot of fancy effects and some seemingly fancy AI going on, it ran just fine on my humble machine at the default settings. I have to turn off lots of stuff on all of the 3D games I have purchased recently to get decent play speed, and some still give me trouble with everything turned to teh lowest possible setting.

Third, although I like BF1942 a lot, and was impressed by the MOH demos I played, they are very artificial, and don't really try to simulate the experience of combat on WWII. When I first got into historical simulation games, the kind you had to play with tiny pieces of card board and hexagon covered maps, after reading long confusing rule books, a lot of thought went into trying to simulate reality. Most history based computer games limit their authenticity to recreating accurate visuals and weapons, and rarely try to simualte the conditions. Call of Duty looks like a big step towards greater realism.

Just ran through the demo- with everything set onhigh detail it ran smooth and looked sharp. Intense and fun- I like it much more than bf42- any words on a map editor? Will it be somne variant of the Radient editor (which I've never used but hear is complex?)

Does the screenshot function work in the demo? I saved jpgs but they were all black.

Everyone seems to be glowing about this game, both here and in the gaming community in general. Am I the only one who's dissappointed? It's not that the game isn't exciting, it is, at least the demo which I just ran through. But it strikes me as being just a prettier Metal of Honor. It's still got that same...you have to complete objective A in order to access section B of the map. I can understand completing the objectives in order, as it is a military game, and so that's ok. But having completing an objective unlock another section of the map is played out if anything in gaming is. Crap, that predates Zork! With what I'm seeing of the HL2 engine and Tribes 3's use of the Unreal Engine, or the completely wide-open Planetside, this just screams Rail-Shooter. Oh, and leaving out multi-player coop is lame. It was lame with Unreal 2 and it's lame here. Ghost Recon and, to a lesser extent, Raven Shield have really spoiled me in that regard as far as squad-based military games go.

The only other thing that bothered me in the demo was the damn accuracy of the Germans compared to my own (or my squad mates). It's not quite as bad as the 1.4 patch of Ghost Recon where if any bad guy with an AK-47 was within 1000 yards of you, you'd get hit in the head with one round shot from the hip. And that was the "untrained militia". Still, I found myself getting hit left an right at long distances by enemies I could hardly see...and I'm prone behind at least partial cover, and shooting with the zoomed Garand rifle.

Now, having said all that, I'll probably pick it up first day anyway...especially if the server gets switched over to it.

I'm almost out of hard drive space so I can't download the demo t'il I back up and then delete. But will this game run ok on low end system with a geforce4 ti . I did not want to upgrade until the big games come out, but it seems they are all being delayed :D

I played the demo and I was impressed. I was surprised how I was able to quickly set my graphic options all the way up, and just jump in and start playing without tweaking to get decent framerates.

I found the demo pretty exciting and it kept my attention. However, I just bought BF1942..so I doubt i'll be buying any new games soon. New games aren't cheap.

I got it yesterday and played the first 5 or 6 single player missions last night. So far:

1) The graphics are good. Much better than MoH. The sound is greeat too.

2) The missions are just as linear as in MoH and the demo mission. There's one mission early on where you are riding shotgun (or MP40) in a car on a mad run through German lines. This mission in particular screams "rail shooter". You have no control over the car and on the medium skill level, it really didn't seem like it mattered if I shot back or not.

3) The friendlies are odd. At times, they drop like flies. At other times, they seem invulnerable. I watched one get hit DOZENS (not a dozen, dozens) of times by a fixed German machine gun and all it did was keep him from shooting back because the wounding animation kept playing. Also, friendly reinforcements seem to appear out of nowhere.

If you liked the single player campaign in Medal of Honor, you'll like this one. The missions seem real short though and there isn't any real strategy to them, at least so far. If anyone is playing multiplayer and either running or server or you have a favorite to play on, please post.

Multi-player is alot of fun.

Action is faster than BF - no vehicles.

I have only played TDM so far - the objective multi-player modes will take a bunch of teamwork.

Two thumbs up.

Single player campaign was pretty short - the Russian battles were the best.
