Ok, had the game for only about 3 days now... but I think I have played it enough to give it my recommendation. I am not normally a fan of racing games, but this one is pretty great.

Here is a quick breakdown of goodies/impressions so far.

-The racing game actually makes it look like you are really going fast (like 1200 km/hr). First time I have seen a game actually LOOK like it is going as fast as it SAYS it is.

-It is beautiful. The graphics are amazing and VERY smooth...

-The game consists of 3 grand prix circuits... each with 5 tracks. There are 3 difficulty settings. So far it is pretty tough, I have beaten each circuit on the easiest and 2 of them on the middle setting.

-There is a story mode where u race as Captain Falcon through "chapters". Each chapter has a cutscene and a mission. The missions range from just having to beat a certain racer to the end and escaping a building (corridor) before time runs out, to having to wreck opponents vehicles to having to keep your speed above 700 km/hr. The story mode is awesome... each is fairly unique and does throw in something fresh to break up the monotonous racing. You can only play 1 chapter at a time, once you beat one you have to "buy" the next chapter using tickets.

- Tickets are basically the currency in the game. Each chapter you beat you earn some tickets (not enough to buy the next chapter though). You also get tickets by completing a circuit. You can buy chapters with the tickets, buy vehicles (and their pilots), or buy custom parts.

- You can build your own machine, basically choosing parts that you have purchased and putting them together. There are 3 different sections, you buy 1 part for each and it makes up the car and its stats.

-You can create an emblem in a cool little editor (you can draw, fill, do circles/squares, erase, undo, and other stuff). Once you make an emblem you can actually stick it onto your car anywhere and it will show up in the races... it is pretty awesome.

-There are also the standard vs races where u can race against friends/computers, time attack mode which is just trying to beat the record times, and practice mode.

That is a quick (ok not so quick) run down of the games features. The game is pretty fun. Not sure about its lastability... the racing will get boring, as most racers do. The story mode will hopefully keep it pretty fun. There are a bunch (i think 30) pilots, and I only have the default 4 unlocked... so there are a bunch of incentives... don't know if I can play a racer for that long though.

So if you like racing games... this one is a MUST. If you like some racing games, then you should still probably get it. If you don't like any racers (cept mario kart like me), then it is a toss up whether or not it is a good buy. I haven't played it multiplayer yet (not letting my roomates touch it until I have the story mode ulocked for myself :) ), but hopefully that will be fun to race our own cars.

Heh... anybody here even have a gamecube?

I thought Idle did... remember him talking about super monkeyball2 (which rocks).

I can't wait for mario kart double dash to come out... looks like it could be awesome.

Just a quick note... I started playing FZero GX multiplayer a bit... and it isn't so good :(

I am not really a racing fan though... so keep that in mind.

The biggest drawback with the multiplayer is that the screen is so small for you when things are moving so fast. With 4 player split screen on my large tv (36 or 38 inch), it was VERY hard to see what was going on. Even 2 player split screen doesn't work well... it has you side by side so you can't see the walls/turns next to you very well.

There is only vs race mode for multiplayer, so no cool event racing, battles, or anything like that.

It is still somewhat fun... but in all honesty... it has already gotten old after only a couple days of multiplayer. The game still has some replay with the billion parts/cars/pilots you can purchase and being able to build your own car and make emblems to put on them is definately a plus.

I still think the game is worth the purchase... but the multiplayer is lacking IMO. I am more into the battling, crazy events, trick/stunt racing type multiplayer games, pure multiplayer racing just doesn't cut it for me.

Ah there's your problem. It's not the game, it's your puny TV. You need to get a 65" with 5.1 surround (hopefully 7.1 soon), then all multiplayer games wouldn't be a problem. :p
