UT2003 UT2MOD installer

I have tried all the fixes listed on the offical Epic tech forums, the planetunreal forums, and all the fixes at UnrealWiki including the UT2Regcheck utility and I'm still having an error trying to install UT2MOD files. I've even reinstalled UT2k3 after deleting all the registry entries I could find. Nothing's working. I still can't get UT2MOD's to install. This wouldn't be a huge problem if I could get installing from .zip files to work reliably, but no luck their either.

The error I'm getting when I click on UT2MOD files is

"Installer failed to launch C:\DOCUM~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\Setup#####\Setup.ex e", where ##### is a random 5 digit number.

I'm running on Windows XP Home and UT2k3 in installed in the C:\Games\UT2003\ directory.

Any more ideas?

This is similar to a problem I was having last night. I was trying to install C&C Generals on my computer. But the install would crash with an error similar to yours. It said it couldnt launch some program it extracted in a temp directory (like the one you listed above).

After many hours of fighting with the installer.. I checked for two things. One, that the Windows Installer service was enabled.

And two, while the installer was running (and before it would crap out), I hit alt-ctrl-del to get the task manager. There were two msiexec.exe's running. I did a "end process" on the one that did not have any cpu usage. The installer completed and I was able to play the game.

..I probably should have made a new topic, but google liked this one...

ok, I got UT2004, and when I went to install it, I got the same message. However, I do not have msiexec.exe running when I look at the task manager...

I've got Win XP Pro if that makes any difference...

(ok, I found one "msiexec.exe" running, but only after I made a new user. ok, now not even misexec.exe is showing up as a process...)

here's the exact error...

"Installer Failed To Launch
C:\DOCUM~1\admin\LOCALS~1\Temp\Setup017171\Setup.e xe"

notice how it has a 6 digit number instead of 5 for "Setup017171\" which also randomizes... ok, even the number of digits randomizes, sometimes its five, sometimes its six...

I went to the location, and the local settings (LOCALS~1\) was actually hidden, but after opening that folder, there were a lot of setup###### folders, which had a setup.exe along with around 25 other files in it.
