New patch. Fixes some Co-op issues and some disconnect issues. Also tweaked the netcode for better performance in large games.
I patched through the auto-updater and it worked fine. A stand-alone file should be out shortly.

Auto updater did not work for me.
Stand alone worked.
For what it's worth, Novalogic is still sending the beta testers new versions of the game to test before patches get released. Just letting you know they're not leaving you out to dry.

A patch already? Despite how buggy the demo was and many of those bugs were probably still there in the shipping game, I'm certainly more impressed with Novalogic's support than EA's.
I've been reading through the novaworld forums and the game seems decent although still pretty buggy. The high damage weapons and player fragility seems to be pushing most players to play snipers (gotta get that high KDR), which probably doesn't allow for much teamwork taking objectives. However it doesn't seem to have the equipment balance problems of BFV, where at first there were always more players on the US/ARVN side 'cause of the M60/LAW and now in 1.01/1.02 there are more players stacking the NVA side to spawn rape with the choppers. Snipers in JO may live longer and kill more but it doesn't appear that they're unstoppable.
Unfortunately, getting good info from the forums is tough because the player community seems to be on par with BFV's: too many fanboys who see nothing wrong with the game and the ones who do see something wrong suggest completely rediculous changes.
Cheers,
Salyavin

So is the game worth buying or no?

I really like it.
There ARE a lot of snipers. Just like any other game with a sniper rifle. It's not hard taking them out. People just wanna play like BF and run into an enemy base full speed. Not gonna happen. The damage system makes you look over the next hill before you top it. Gotta see the lay of the land before you do anything. They should probably adjust the sniper's load-out or aiming difficulty a tad and those n00bs will go away.
The team aspect is kinda interesting. You can be effective with a good 5-6 man team. Even if you have 70 other smacktards on your team you can still make headway with a good little squad. The attack points are set up nicely, too. You have to take bases in order to win the game. You can't just go to any enemy base and take it.
The maps are gorgeous. HUGE maps with a lot of room to run around in.
Definately a TeamSpeak game. Good communications are the key to winning.
I think it is worth the $40 it costs. And, as Sal mentioned, Novalogic seems commited to making it better with frequent patches.

Please POP where you are going to play. Thanks
I need some in-game friends, the rush the base and die thing isn't working for me.
I have heard the sniper/ground humper complaints for just about every game with a sniper rifle. The snipers in JO (so far) are no worse than "hurtgen" in Call of Duty, or "extreme crater" in UT on a reg nite :)
To solve, simply and carefully, flank the stationary enemy - then shoot them or knife them from behind/side. I have been using the silenced MP5 with some success (so not to give away my position).
I think the vehicles 'feel' better in JO than in BFV - but my favorite is still the tanks in DC :(
The night/day change is a really good feature.
I like the high damage weapons more than the nerfed ones in other games; nerfed = dancing with other players whilst shooting at their feet.
I haven't had any major bug issues - other than a couple of invisible vehicles. But there are so many vehicles you don't care - the amount of vehicles kinda fixes the runway camper problems.
You have to be verrry patient to be successful in JO.
Not a fan-boy - yet...still getting killed way too much.

The latest update seems to have gotten a handle on the out-of-control sniper class. Now you will see a definitive cone of fire when a sniper fires at you. A sniper must be much more carefull setting up and move quickly after making a kill. The snipers are all bitching, so this can only be a good thing.

When are they going to fix the INSANE video problems?
I have these green lines going across my screen on most maps. Not sure if its the "Fog Error" i've read about, but i'm not sure.....annoying as HELL!!!

wtf?
I haven't heard of that one. The only problem I have is a little slowdown on the big servers. Everything looks great, though.
What kind of vid card you running?

I have a PNY 128mb Geo4TI AGP card, that looks perfect on all other games, INCLUDING Far Cry......
So i have no idea what the hell the problem is...

Duuuuuuuude.
Time to upgrade. I am surprised you can even play with that. Try upgrading your drivers if you haven't already. It kinda sounds like you might be having a heat problem. JO is very demanding and it may be working your card harder than other games. Try blowing out the dust bunnies on it as well.
9800Pro 256 megs are an excellent price/performance buy at this time.

Yeah, i'm going to do some PC maintenence tonight. I can't afford a new system yet, but i will have it soon...

Yeah.
That card doesn't support a lot of features of JO.
Some of them you might need to play.

Well i think i found the problem. I reinstalled my Nvidia drivers, no go. I did some trolling on the net and my card should work ok with the game. So i opened my case and TADA! The fan on the card wasn't moving. I cleaned it, mounted and fired it up. Now the game runs great! I do see those lines every once in awhile, but it sure has cleared up almost competely. And all the settings are now running on Normal.
Had a lot of fun playing COOP last night. Good times.
Does it seem that when you plan on servers with 80+ peeps it just lags WAAAAAY too much?
Inkswitch
07-13-2004, 09:18 AM
It's because the game is probably the most demanding one out there.
I have an 2300mhz CPU and a 9800Pro and I will drop as low as 15 or 20 FPS on larger servers sometimes. It needs a fast CPU and Vid card to run it well. A new video card will help, but you will still see some performance issues because of the nature of the game. I imagine an A64 would probably run it pretty smoothly.

I get almost no lag, even when some other ppl are complaining.
I only get lag when in a firefight with 20+ player in a small area, with mortars raining down, etc.
It is probably your rig.
I have 1 gig ram, 9800XT, defragged SATA, and a AMD64 3200+.

Me wants an A64 soon. :ink:
Good to know, puf. I knew it was hella demanding on your CPU/Memory.
And, are you looking for us? I got about 10 peeps playing on a TS server (not ours) last night and had some damn good games. Look for us in the Players section. We alternate between East and West coast servers usually.

I have no trouble running this game with all settings maxed out and on a full 150 player server. I do have a decent rig though.

I played last night from 8-9pm AZ time and same 'gamingasylum' on TKOTH...which was interesting. However, if it was Dank, he left pretty quick.
I searched for *ink....
The games (when you are solo) are highly dependent on your team - at least how well you feel during the game. I got on 'west coast - pacific blue' and had a good time.
I am trying to be a medic more, but love the RPG in boat maps.

We usually play a tad earlier than that. 5-8pm AZ time.
I'll start looking out for you. As always, I play as Inkswitch. ElectricHead and Moorlan are playing as well as a few others from Moorlan's America's Army buddies. We usually use their TS.
Where do you play, Goat? International servers?
HailtheGoat

I usually play the international Cocoa server or one of the various West Coast servers that happens to be near full at the time.
I get around 150-180 pings to the west coast servers, not to shabby at all.

No. 150 ain't bad at all. I play on some servers over 100 and they run great.
