I am new to this site and like to list my favorite SNES RPGs.
1. Chrono Trigger (the best of everthing, especially the duel techs)
2. Treasure Hunter G (stupid name, learning curve for the battle system, absolutely awesome game)
3. Terranigma
4. Earthbound (great game, but fight mode needs to be more pleasing to the eye)

Notice that Final Fantasy 6 is not on my list. I got tired of performing in operas and watching Kefka jump up and down!
Super Mario RGP is just goofy.

Is Final Fantasy 6 the same as Final Fantasy 3? If so, it is probably my favorite. Don't know what it was about it, but it is still up there in my favorite games of all time (even though I generally don't like RPG games).

I liked chrono trigger, though I never used the duel techs since they seemed way too weak to waste 1 attack to combine with another. I LOVED the replay value of it where you could beat the game at almost any time during a "replay" and depending on what you have changed in the timeline, the ending would be different, sometimes DRASTICALLY different. VERY awesome idea.

Super Mario RPG was just friggin awesome IMO. I think the thing I liked most about it was that you had something to do during a battle besides just choosing your action... The way some attacks required you to tap a button fast, or time the button press, or whatever, actually made you do something during battles then watch them play out in front of you without much control. FF3 did this somewhat for some characters, like the character that you would learn techniques similar to Fighting games (like a half circle motion then press a button)... probably a reason why I loved the game so much.

Haven't played the others...

It was later re-released as FF6 on the PS1 in Final Fantasy Anthology, although the port was so bad that I gave up halfway through (of course, it was my third time playing it having finished it twice on the SNES). The Japanese Final Fantasy 3 is the only Final Fantasy that's almost unobtainable here and may never see the light of day.

Cheers,

Dude, I can’t believe you can go through Chrono Trigger without using duel techs. If you are fighting four enemies, you can hit them all with a duel tech. If you use a single tech, you will usually hit only one enemy. Also, you can heal your whole party with duel techs.

I just finished Treasure Hunter G and I say it is the only SNES RPG that can stand up to Chrono Trigger. Most of you may not even have heard of it. It is one those games that never officially came to America and it had to be translated. It is actually the last RPG that Squaresoft made for the SNES. IMO, they practiced with Final Fantasy 3 then created the masterpiece Treasure Hunter G. The battle system requires the player to be very involved, and just about every single battle is different!

It's been a LONG time since I have played Chrono trigger, so I don't remember too much about it, but I am pretty sure I never used duel techs... besides trying them out once or twice. Just remembered wondering why I would want to use 2 people to only do something like 1.5x the damage when I could use each person separately and do 2x damage total and have the ability to change what the other does depending on what happened with the first attack. Also, I remember it being kind of a pain to waste attack time of 1 character to wait for the second character to.

Again, it has been something like 10 years since I played it, so I may be remembering it all wrong.
