I've picked up the Homeworld box in the game store, read the back and debated whether or not to buy it. Over and over. The reviews I've read seemed to all say the same thing: it's a great game if you don't mind trigonometry.

I've been looking for a good space-based capital ship game ever since I read the first of David Weber's "Honor Harrigton" novels a couple of years ago (it doesn't hurt that David lives in town, and I've met him on several occassions). I haven't seen anything yet that has the brings the feel of capital ship fighting to the PC. The X-Wing games had capital ships, but not that you could control, and frankly destroying them with an X-Wing or Tie Fighter was an excercise in entering cheat codes. I've never messed with the Star Trek space-sims. I'm a Star Trek fan, but somehow they never caught my interest. I guess I'm afraid they're more akin to X-Wing with ships zooming around each other...a'la the Wolf 359 scene from First Contact, than the 3 dimensional chess game that was the final battle in Wrath of Khan. I definitely want something where the outcome is dependent on using tactics, not being more accurate or faster with the joystick.

Get the game. Get Homeworld: Cataclysm if you find it. It should be in the bargain bin. Definately worth it. This is a great RTS game set in space. The graphics are still great and the gameplay is very fun. I am looking forward to Homeworld 2 almost as much as HalfLife 2.
