The gamecube forum gets so neglected I feel I must keep it alive by posting a list of games you need to get if you haven't already (no particular order).
I put a "M" next to the ones that I feel you should get only if you have people to play it with... these are generally very multiplayer focused and could be very boring single player.
Super Smash Bros. - M
Super Monkey Ball - M
Metroid Prime
Zelda Wind Waker
Mario Party 4/5 - M
Viewtiful Joe
Mario Kart DD - M
Prince of Persia
Rogue Squadron3 Rebel Strike - M
Hunter the Reckoning - M
Mario Golf - M (might still be ok single player)
Soccer Slam - M (is ok single player, but the multiplayer is so much fun it overshadows any single player experience)
Thats the list off the top of my head. If I remember any others I'll add them. If you have a gamecube and don't have some of the games I listed... I STRONGLY urge you to get them... every single one I mentioned is a GREAT game. If I had to put numbers on them, I would put at least 8's on each, most being 9's or 10's. I would stay away from most of the "M" ones I listed if you don't have a consistent supply of people to play with. Some are downright HORRIBLE games alone, such as Mario Party and Rogue Squadron. Most of these games are pretty cheap now, around 20-30 bucks each. Some are hard to find, like Soccer Slam.
If anybody wants in depth accounts of any let me know, I'll be happy to explain why you need to buy them NOW.
Similarly, stay away from these below...
Splinter Cell
Animal Crossing
Hmm.. guess those are the only 2 I hate. Odd thing is, both are VERY popular, so they are still probably decent games for most people... just not for me.

:)
Basically, the game rocks... A LOT. It is extremely fun... mostly due to the fact that you can do amazing acrobatic feats VERY easily with simple controls. The big flaw is that the game is short, very short. Took under 8 hours for me to beat and I wasn't rushing or anything, just taking my time enjoying it. It is still worth the $50 I paid for it probably, though I did get splinter cell for free with it. It looks like it still sells for $50, not sure if splinter cell still comes with it. I may actually hold off on that game for a little bit since the price should fall in a few months hopefully.
I'd recommend getting Metroid Prime first. It is a MUCH longer game and is $30 I believe. It is a VERY fun game. I normally don't like FPS single player games, but the Metroid Prime is amazing. Anybody that thinks the Gamecube is underpowered should look at some of the amazing stuff in Metroid Prime. There are actually quite a few spots where I got scared while playing. Freaked me out the first few times when I noticed I could see my own face in the visor when I shot certain weapons (the character's face, not my REAL face... now THAT would be creepy).
I found myself starting to write a lengthy description here, but decided I shoudl start a new thread for it. I'll post a thread for Metroid Prime.

After reading your PoP review I went and downloaded the demo on PC, I know I'm getting this one for the gamecube.
Mario Kart DD and Mario Party 5 are real fun, especially playing with my kids. Heh, even my wife, she hates video games, likes to play those with us.
My kids, for some reason, absolutly love Animal crossing. To me it's boring. There isn't much to do but they think it's a blast. I'm thinking of getting them Harvest Moon since it's along the sme genre.
I borrowed Metroid Prime from a friend, started playing then UT2K4 arrived. I think I might get it. The controls are a little hard to get used to at first but I just need to get used to console controllers again anyway. Gamecube needs to make a keyboard and mouse for their FPS games.

Yeah, it didn't take me too long to get into the controls for Metroid prime, but it does definately take a bit to get the hang of compared to the usual mouse + keyboard. Basically, there is an auto aim that you can lock on with one of the triggers (i think the left trigger), once you get the hang of it, you will be able to lock onto one guy, strafe around a corner while shooting him, turn into a ball roll around behind another guy, pop up, lock on, and kill the next guy. The controls are just about perfect IMO. Definately takes a bit to get used to from PC FPS games, but for a console game they are amazing.
As for animal crossing, I think my problem is my attention span... I couldn't get in the game because there is a lot of just walking around talking to people... and not really DOING anything. I can see its appeal, I just don't have the patience for that I guess. Same thing with splinter cell, it is too slowly paced for me.
Goat, if your family loves playing together... especially games like Mario Kart DD and Mario Party... I would highly recommend Super Monkey Ball 2. It is an absolute blast multiplayer... and it is definately children friendly. The single player is basically very similar to the old Marble Madness game, which is decent fun by itself. The greatness comes from the Multiplayer. It has 14 games you can play, ranging from Tennis, to bowling, to drop target (attempting to "drop" yourself onto a target for points), to a funky/fun form of baseball. Most are damn fun and since there are 14, you can switch games whenever you get your fill of one. Very sweet game, definately a family friendly game.. and definately a party game.

And if your kids love Animal Crossing, they may like pikimin. I haven't played that game at all, but from what I hear it is a VERY good game and is kind of like the old Lemmings game (kind of a stretch, but best thing I could compare it to).

Heh, thx Sloth :)
Sorry though, only have a gamecube. My last console before my gamecube was SNES. Even got Gamecube kind of late... have only had it a year and a half.
Prince of Persia is for PS2 as well though... so I guess its a review for PS2 as well for you :)

Yeah I go in phases... for a few years I will stick to mostly PC games, then switch to console, then switch back to PC. Not very interested in anything currently out for PC, or even anything that is coming out in the near future. Only thing I may go for is World of Warcraft, though I have never paid monthly to play a game... it will have to be amazing to get me to fork over dough each month.

Only thing I may go for is World of Warcraft, though I have never paid monthly to play a game... it will have to be amazing to get me to fork over dough each month.Same here. I've read up on other MMORPGs and I could never figure out why people would pay a monthly fee for the privilege of sitting and waiting for monster spawns or doing endless attempts at crafting for a level up or a stat increase reward once a day or so. Still, Blizzard has a great track record at taking existing genres and making a fun game, so WoW is the one I'll check out. I can't imagine it not being fun to play a two-headed ogre (http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/races/two-headed-ogre.shtml).
Cheers,

For "kids", definately get super monkey ball 2. The single player is similar to marble madness, but the multiplay is where its at. 14 different games, from bowling, to tennis, to drop target (try to land on targets in the water for points). It is an awesome multiplayer game, and definately "kid" friendly.
Mario party 4 and 5 are also awesome, but only if you can get 3 or 4 people to play consistently.
Zelda Wind Waker is kid friendly, though there may be a few parts that will lose their attentions (lots of sailing around doing nothing).
Super Smash bros. is just an all around amazing game... still loads of fun to play with other people.
If they like games like nba jam or nfl blitz, I'd recommend Sega Soccer Slam. It is by far my favorite sports game of all time. Granted, I don't like or play many sports games (and the ones I do like are the less "realistic" ones). However, soccer slam is just pure fun and it is definately light hearted and fairly kid friendly.
Don't know what age groups we're talking about here... but those are the ones that popped into my head...

I love my gamecube... heres some recommendations!
- Zelda Wind Waker: Kids'll dig it, and so will you... probably the most amazing single player game ive ever played after Call of Duty...however (SIAB?) is right, sometimes you sail around to much... but MINOR flaw
- Super Smash bros, Super Mario Sunshine, Mario Kart, NINTENDO built anything: You know what they are, ive played em all and each one is spectacular.
- Metriod: Deffinatley check this one out, controls can be a bit daunting but are real fun when you get used to them... difficult but incredibly satisfying game.
- Eternald Darkness: This horror game ($8?!) really suprised me with how fun it was, expecially for being so cheap... deffinatley check it out if you like RE
- MGS:Twin Snakes... Metal...Gear...Solid, what else is there to say?
Ehh, ive got more... but my brain isnt workign right atm, or i woulda written longer reviews, hehe. If someone shows some interest in this post, i'll give more. :p

mario tennis is good times. Basically any tennis game has always been fun to me, dunno why. heh.
Man...i remember when i first played virtua tennis on the DC. I was sitting there for hours trying to beat the damn last guy. I remember how happy i got at 3 am when i thought i was gonna lose and the computer actually missed a shot (like a 1 in 1000 change when it's on the last level)
