I logged on to the server last night. not many people there. so I practiced flying. I decided to work with the chopper. I crashed. over, and over, and over, and over. Then I finally got the darned thing in the air. After about 15 minutes I could keep it in the air for more than a few minutes. I even got it pointed in the right direction.

what i want to know is, how do these guys who are shooting my shiznit from an ah64 able to fly this thing so well? direct cybernetic implants? I tried that. i just get dizzy and heave my doritos everywhere.

You need a joystick to fly worth a crap.

I have the saitek x45 JS/throttle combo. that made it at least a little flyable. I find that once I start losing control, I cant get it back and am fighting to keep upright.

How do you control your rudder? I use my twist and it works well but if I remember right the 45 has no twist.

The X45 has an entirely seperate peripheral to control the throttle. I have the same one but it's in storage from when I moved. I tried using a gamepad to fly, but it was easier for me with mouse and keyboard. I'll give the X45 a try once I can find where it is. :p

I guess its a good thing its tough to fly, since it would be rediculously powerfull. the x45 does make life much easier since the rudder control is on the throttle assembly, back behind where you cant see in f7's picture. I do love the stick though. got it for 60$ at best buy.

I use a Logitech Wingman Extreme. It's got the throttle and rudder twist on the stick. I'm still having a terrible time flying. I can go from point A to point B fine, but I easily lose control if I try anything fancy like shooting something on the ground or trying to evade fire.

The stick is supposedly calibrated, but I find the DC helicopters and harrier tend to slew to the right and down anyway. The harrier bothers me the most. I'd expect some torque steer on the helicopters, but the harrier should be able to pull of straight up and down and doesn't. I think it must use the same flight model as the helicopters, but it may also by my joystick.

I dont think its your joystick. mine does the same thing, they slew to one direction or the other.

but the harrier should be able to pull of straight up and down and doesn't.I'm not sure if this is what you're talking about, but to make the harriers take off vertically, throttle all the way back. For some reason what is 'reverse' throttle on the regular planes, makes the harrier lift off vertically like the helos.

Yeah...I also have the Extreme and it works like Mikey said. I found that out as I usually keep my throttle back when entering a plane, so the Harrier automatically lifts vertically.

The nose cam is essential in killing anything on the ground, IMO.

The Harrier has been easier to fly than any other, for me, anyways. With that said...I still suck at flying.

When ya gonna play Zinia?

All that practicing you do, will not give us a good kill count...hehe.

I have heard there are scripts for having the heli's circle nice and flat...for the gunner.

Cheaters.

I think they're called "Hover scripts."

What is that you say? reverse throttle makes a chopper hover??!? /me smacks his head.

What is that you say? reverse throttle makes a chopper hover??!? /me smacks his head.Nope. Reverse throttle on a helo will make it slam into the ground.

On the harrier jets, use reverse throttle to take off vertically *like* a helicpoter.

Yep same thing happens with mine. I just got the Force 3D and no matter what I try to do, I can't see to get the darn thing to stay straight. I tried setting the sensitivity to all the way down, as Zinia suggested, and that has helped somewhat. However, everytime I use the Apache or any other Helo, it seems to go haywire. Maybe the problem is with our cheaper joystick which doesn't seem to center well with 1942. Ink/EH, you guys seeing the same thing with your ThighMasters?

EH doesn't have a Thrustmaster.

No, I don't see anything like that. You know that you have to counteract every movement in a helo. If you start a turn left, you need to rudder back to the right to straighten out. Same with the blade. Tilt forward and you will keep tilting until you reverse the tilt.

I've gotten better witht he chopper my x45 is really making the difference. I actually had an air to air kill last night. i guess practice, practice, practice.
