View Full Version : UT2k4 PROBLEM
My friend just bought ut2k4 from EB today. He loaded the 5 disks in needed for the installation. Then he popped in the Play disk and tried to start the game. He got an error - "You are trying to start this game with a backup. Please insert the original disk". Oops! He's pissed.
We're trying to find out if anybody else has heard of this problem. Any ideas?
We've found another person who had the same problem and posted on the Atari Forums. This isn't an isolated incident.
Looks like a lot of people are having problems with authentication of the play disk.

After seeing this, I won't be running out tonight to buy it. I'll wait till I see a fix.

Ahh.. the joys of anti-copy protection. Lets see here..
1) All it does is create problems for people who buy the game. Customers have to spend countless hours on the phone with "tech support" or finding a solution of their own.
2) It will soon be defeated anyway by those who create no-cd cracks. Those with CD problems fortunate enough to know where to download these cracks will be able to play ( one or two weeks after purchasing the game).
Good one, Epic!
Yeah, my friend called EB and told them the problem and one of the guys there said, "go on the internet and download a crack". It's sad when you have to crack your own legit disk. He's really pissed. He's been waiting for this game to come out, ran out and got it the first day it was out and now this. All I can say is Epic better move their a$$es and get a patch out there fast.

That's a bummer for your friend Shirl.
Wonder if they knew about the problem before shipping?
There's also a second problem many people are having where the splash screen comes up and goes blank and then nothing.

It sounds like Epic support is giving people the run around.
It's a crap shoot if you buy this game. It may or may not work. :ink:
We finally got it to work. It didn't like the Asus CD drive, so we tried an old HP CD drive and it worked. You may need to try several drives if you have this problem.
