Probably Sobe. I doubt im getting BFV anytime soon. I have yet to see any reason to go out and buy it.
Not dissing the game. Just dont see why I need to buy another BF game when I already have one.

I'm guessing they might feel after us getting the original BF, then FH and then DC off the one game it was time for them to make some cash again?
Beside I read they upgraded the engine for BFV..costs them money to do that..right?
Phan, you want to get BFV. Trust me. :) The game rocks. Makes anything BF1942 related look like Pong.

Besides, DC is going to be ported to the BFV engine after this next release....

Besides, DC is going to be ported to the BFV engine after this next release....Perhaps, but probably as a side mod (like DCX and Tanelorn's Realism mod) and not by DeLise and Trauma. They've already put a lot of work into adapting the BF1942 engine and turning out a polished game. They'd lose that going to a new engine. Also, DC wouldn't really benefit from the biggest change in BFV: the new renderer. Not too many plants to render in the desert.
Galactic Conquest however should port their mode to BFV. They're not as far into development as DC and most of their focus has been on graphics, sound, and map design. Those should port over fairly easily from what I've heard. Their hard work is still ahead: fixing twitchy vehicles, balance, optimizations, etc. so they wouldn't lose as much switching engines now. They could also take advantage of the BFV renderer to do maps like Dagobah and Endor.

Actually, i read in the DC forums that porting to the BFV engine was a def move. DCX can't change engines without DC since it still used the core tech of DC in its mod....
I'll see if i can find the thread and post it here...

Actually, i read in the DC forums that porting to the BFV engine was a def move.Hehe, there are about 50+ threads about it but so far I haven't seen a DCDev confirm (or deny) it. The general consensus seems to be against it though, for the reasons I gave above.

Point taken. However i think the BFV engine has more to offer than just a new render system. The new 3D map, the shooting from vehicles, the better vehicle controls, and the netcode seems to be much better as well....
Yhe only good thing, regadless of it making use of dense foliage or not is it would be available on a new engine where BF1942 will, now, slowly fade away into that good night.

i wonder if the peeps that left DC to play BFV are coming back to play it again - if not maybe after the next update they will...i think

BFV is harder to play then DC. Folks who don't have the patience or just do not want to be bothered will go back to DC, I think.
Also BFV had many, many one sided reviews, those reviews usually turned out to be about another game entirely :p

The vehicles are just more fun in DC. BFV is like a cross between the slow, lumbering (but cool) BF42 and the haul- ass precision of DC. In my opinion.

i wonder if the peeps that left DC to play BFV are coming back to play it again - if not maybe after the next update they will...i think :confused:I only play DC and BFV at all because of the Asylum's congenial atmosphere for fragging so I'll play whatever you all are currently playing.
But then, I like slow and lumbering.
While DC was good, it was a bit too fast paced IMO for a war based game. Too arcadey. BFV suits me fine. :)

The helis in BFV are completely overpowered (reminds me of DC 0.38) and the ground vehicles are mostly useless. If you're US, just take the M60/LAW kit and you're a walking tank, so who needs a vehicle? And if you're NVA, every US soldier is a walking tank so if you get in a vehicle you're dead.
Granted, the Huey was the staple of the US forces in Vietnam and ground vehicles have very limited utility in the jungle so this fits the setting. But it doesn't make for a very fun game if you're not a heli pilot. DC has much better balance for different play styles.

I dont know about too fast paced.. anything BF related seems to take alot of patience. Respawn times especially. But I do like BFV much more than BF1942 or any of it's mods.

So...did you guys kill the DC server altogether?

Yeah, we took it down to accomodate UT2004. If there is a big demand, we could put it up again, I suppose...

Off-topic....
Does anyone want to make a friendly wager that Trauma Studios is developing an expansion pack for BFV based on DC? Seems to me that is how EA will make $$$ from absorbing TS.

:(
Not digging BFV so much. Yet, anyway. 2k4 just seems to be the same spammy mess 2k3 was, with some of the rough edges sanded off. :/

I know there are complaints about the US being over armed and how it's not fair. So I don't usually play using those weapons.
The game is quicker paced than DC imo, I don't mean vehicles are faster, just the whole game seems to go by faster for me.
I don't automatically expect to die when I reach a certain point, I have a chance in this game. Players aren't entrenched here, they move around.
I had a lot of problems running DC, those problems are gone with BFV. I am enjoying the game, even with all it's warts.

If you are playing a GamingAsylum server they are currently set up for Battlefield: Vietnam and UT2K4. We are not running desert combat right now.
If it is someones elses server it just means they have a different version of DC running than you do.
Can you post the IP and we'll try to help you out.

If you look in the Servers section here: http://www.gamingasylum.net/servers.php
there is a short list of DC servers. Maybe one of them will ping well for you :)

For DC you need to install the Battlefield 1942 1.6 patch first and then DC 0.7. If you still get a "data differs from server" error on every server, you might have a corrupt file. Unfortunately, the best way to resolve that is to reinstall Battlefield 1942, the 1.6 patch and DC 0.7 from scratch. If you only get the error on one or two servers, it might just be running a different map or mod.
Creating your own server is a much more complicated process than just clicking the "Create a Game" button. That works if you have a few friends you want to play a private game with. But for a server open to the public, you need to have a lot of bandwidth, open ports in your firewall, and edit the .con files so that it shows up on the master server list. Even then there's no guarantee anyone will find it or show up. Empty servers or those with 1 or 2 players will usually stay that way; you need 8 or 10 in order to get players to join "off the street" so to speak. You're much better off joining a game that already has some players in it.

Thst it!
I feel like giving up.
I have BF1.6 DC0.7 and it just won't work.
Would it be because i have the nocd mod in the game?
It doesn't matter what i try to join either, BF1942, DC or GC.
I have a good 1Mb connection as well, so i'm now lost.
I've been trying for hours now, i know i'm new at pc online but i play xbox live a lot which is why i would like to try this but my patience is running thin and my knowledge of problem solving on the PC is non existant
StealthDP

Yeah, I would try it without the no-cd crack. Also, make sure to check that PunkBuster is enabled.
Welcome to the Asylum!

Punkbuster is definately enabled.
To get rid of the nocd crack do i have to do a new install of everything?
Salyavin
05-12-2004, 02:00 PM
Punkbuster is definately enabled.
To get rid of the nocd crack do i have to do a new install of everything?Yes, the "data differs from server" error is because the cracked version of BF1942.exe doesn't match the official one. Fixing it depends on the No-CD crack. If it just replaced the BF1942.exe file then you can restore the original file. If you had to do more than that then you'll probably need to reinstall.
There are no known No-CD cracks or keygens for the Battlefield games that will allow you to play online. The master server will verify hashes of both the game files and the CD-key before letting you connect.

Actually, a no-cd crack will work just fine. You just have to find the right one. :D It's only the key generators that do not work online.

We were not discussing where to get cracks or suggesting that people pirate the game, Sobe. I was stating that you can play the latest version of the game without having the CD in the drive (even with DC). :)
I played DC until the sun came up last night. Saw Pal out there. Had some fun. The longest I've played DC in a while. Damn, I might have to go out and play some UT99 now. :)

Anyone up for putting BF1942/DC on the server for old times sake? I wouldnt mind reinstalling it on my computer. I miss my big truck.
