Well, I got a hold of a Doom III Beta 2 Leak from E3. It's not the first leak, but a patched version released on 2/11/2004. It has about 14 maps. It doesn't seem to be configurable (can't change controls or video from 640x480), but I do know one thing...

This game is scary. With most FPS games, I usually play a little 'ballsy', confident in my skills. That's not the case with this game. I found myself walking through the levels and taking baby steps in the most extreme sense. I was seriously scared. I had to stop playing after 10 minutes because I couldn't take anymore. :cry:

Looking forward to the final release. Be afraid...be very afraid.

i played it too, took FOREVER to download though...

F7 is completely right... great scary game... but...

you need one SERIOUS system to play it.... my little oc'd XP1700 was chugging harder than i've ever seen... i'm gonna need an upgrade.

Remember that this is an alpha (same code, new maps was it?), so the engine is still quite unoptimized...

I don't know of the Parhelia, but you might be out of luck. I know there were some GeForce FX issues, which were resolved through some patching. They simply might not be trying to get compatibility as of this point with less popular vidcards... Then again, are you sure you did the install properly?

:smirk: From what I understood, and forgive me but I'm not trying to contradict you, but the geoforce issues are not resolved. I have read that you still have to install OLD drivers for your geoforce cards in order for the game to work. The installer actually asks you still to do this so I would assume that it isn't fixed yet. The game does run slow only on slower computers. About the only people that can run this nicely are the ones that have smokin machines that are maxed out to the max :D

I downloaded it and ran it on my machines. The first one I ran it on had this :
p3 1.4 ghz
512 RAM
1 MB cache


The second one I have is a laptop. This one was flawless. My laptop is an alienware area 51 extreme. There were no lags or choppies at all on it.. here are the specs on it :
p4 3.2 ghz
1024 RAM
2.5 MB cache

The game is scary I thought. It was nicely done. To the comments about being disappointed because it runs very slow : I don't think that they would leave it like that.. It is a beta release and still in the making. I believe that they are going to cut it down on the requirements closer to release time.

All this hype is driving everyone crazy. I'd bet Valve and ID already have the final copies of hl2 and doom3 sitting on their desk. This whole release date is just racking in potential sales.

With that being said...

I downloaded Doom3 tonight.. I loaded it.. Tried going to controls.. and somehow it loaded the game.. ok.. so i go back to the menu.. hit video, sure enough,.. it loads the game.. hah.. Anyways.. The game looks VERY promising. The leak was probably taken somewhere around February.. So im guessing this is no where near the current progress of the game.

It ran silky smooth..

The lighting was a big glitchy, very edgy with a few flickers here and there.. The whole game is too dark in my opinion. I have to admit though,.. I WAS SCARED ****LESS.. they nailed the tunnel vision view that shows when you're being attacked. Zombies were a bit lost.. I'd shoot them and they would be attacking the empty air infront of them faced in another direction. Anyways, besides the lack of AI, the inability to adjust jack, and the horrible lighting,..

Well.. I played d3 beta 2 a little bit more today..

The gameplay is awesome.. Monsters are a bit dumb though. I was standing in another room infront of a window, and the guy kinda passed me. The AI and stealth in Manhunt has really raised my standards of fps and games alike. The idea of stealth should be implemented to raise the skill level in every game. For all of you who didn't know.. There is to be a Quake 4. The only people who are probably going to buy that are Quake Quacks.. It has the same engine as "Doom3".. The public probably can't afford 2 games @ 50 bucks back to back.. especially if the titles use the same engine.. it might just be me..
Anyways, you guys should get the Beta 2 version, I doubt it's illegal if thats what half of you are worried about.. They were giving away copies at e3 I've heard. Download mirc.. im tired of this bit torrent ****. I live on the East Coast so i can't get crap for connections even with my 3.0mb line here in hickville. Like I was saying, download mIRC and go to www.packetnews.com or www.ircspy.com and simply search Doom iii ... bada bing bada boom!
Some brilliant programer made an extractor for it.. so if you see .exe it's not a virus.. it's somewhere around 607mb . dont quote me on that

i am in the same boat as you, cant seem to get past that part

i have a TI4800SE, and first ran doom with it overclocked from 275/550 to 330/675 and it ran choppy. i reset the clock frequencies and it ran a LOT smoother. still choppy when some monster jump at you, or the big animation scene between levels. otehr wise gameplay is pretty decent, better than i thought it would be.

i would still rather place with an upgaded gfx card :rockon:

Big animation scene between levels?? wtf??! i dont get no big animation scenes....all i get is at the beggining of the first level is the elevator and it says theres only one guy who can save the world....and then the next is the scene in the 2nd level where he sees the tropper doods w/ the arm/tentacles and the minigun and thats it.

maybe the door is locked since its beta and thats the end of the beta?? but unlikly cuz arnt betas full versions but not finalized?
