Yep, they got 'em. I've just seen the first cheat. A player was using a speed hack (no not a power up). This guy was running faster than a manta the whole game (not adrenaline). Pretty lame.

I think some players just don't get the idea of gaming at all. It's about doing YOUR best, not what some cheat can do for you.

Well, the only potential game-saver is that there was no cheat protection built into the demo anyway.. so with any luck (Hahah.. ya right) Epic is watching the hacks, and preventing them for the retail release.

The speed hack you saw is something that supposedly works in many different games - it's not specific to UT (although Epic says they'll be able to detect and stop it in 2k4).

The cheaters run an external program that tricks Windows into thinking events are occurring much faster than they really are. Or something like that..I'm not totally sure how it works, but it's some OS trickery.

But yeah - bots are out (although I don't think they've been released to the public yet which is good) and so is radar. Just hope Dr. Sin has some tricks up his sleeve for the full version..

Yes, well, this is real. This guy (Heated) was moving so fast my card couldn't keep up with him. He was moving so fast he was having trouble killing people. He kept over running their position and would have to run back. He had to keep stopping so he could figure out where he was. I managed to kill him while he stopped. If you see it you'll know right away.

I never implied it wasn't real; just that I don't know much about the prog and just how many other games it works on.

The reason he couldn't hit anyone is b/c on his end his shots were being super-accelerated like his movement while in reality the server still regulates weapon fire..so he thinks he's spammed four blue balls into someone when in reality only one's come out. I could see people using it in CTF or AS to cap really fast (although in AS they'd likely just fall off the train), but it's largely useless unless the person wants to hotkey it and use a variety of values (ie low enough they can still fight decently but still move quicker than everyone else). pfft..

it's also toggleable on the fly i'm pretty sure freak...so normal normal normal...oh i got the flag? ZIIIIIP!

Cheat protections can only limit, and at least annoy cheaters by making them have to revamp their work every so often (which, they like the challenge of in the first place...)

But they will always be there, your typical demographic of gamers are too smart and too determined to get something done. You will block paths 1-4, and they'll find 5 every time.

But we just keep on trying. It's a game of cat and mouse.

Yeah Idle it's toggleable on the fly, but I think only some speed hack folk can do this as it sometimes causes disconnects? Guess you have to use the right program or something..

One thing to look for..some people will set it fast enough that when they walk, they move at a normal players' running speed - they sort of hope to evade detection that way, but it won't work in any of the UT games because the walk animation is different than the run animation.

With UT2004 I've been trying to keep on top of cheats..mostly because while the demo's out and there's no protection I'd like to be able to tell if someone is cheating/hacking or it's just a bug in the game that caused disconnects or other weirdness.

AND I WANNA GO FASTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :p
