I just tried the Multiplayer Demo of BF1942. Not to rain on anyone's parade, but I can't really say I was impressed or found the game entertaining. Someone tell me the full version is much more addicting. :(

Ah...we use the Desert Combat version. It fixed lots of stuff I found just ok.
Also you need people, bots are just to predicable. People are harder to play against.
You can't win in BF'42 DC without team coordination. Or at least half the team coordinated..imo.

I had the exact same feeling Phanny- but two things changed that for me:
The DC mod. Play is much faster.
Using TeamSpeak and playing with the gang here. Take last night where F7 and I were covering one base. F7 in the faster vehicle, calling out spots, locations... it was great working as a team. That match went on for 80 minutes and didn't feel near that long.

Well thanks Hort. I've always though I was faster...but faster than what or who?
Oh Phan, Sobe and Hort are right. BF game is very much different than UT or some of the other FPS games. It requires a lot of teamwork and coordination. Teamwork + TS = an awesome night of BF fragging! Without them, yeah it's fairly gruelling. That being said, get your squirrelly butt a copy ASAP and get in the game. BTW, landmines are your friend. :p

This is really a multi only game. The single player is horrible...the AI is beyond bad.
Standard online 1942 is pretty good...a bit slow...but it still takes teamwork.
DesertCombat blows the doors of standard 1942. Much better weps and a bit faster paced but still takes good teamwork to win.

This is very good to hear. I will have to check this out with the DC mod. :D
BF1942 with a good team like we had last night is so much more fun that UT. Like Hort said, we had one particular base nailed down for just about the whole match. Hort, Orion, and me were turning away everything the enemy was throwing at us by simply watching each others backs and through good communication over TeamSpeak. Was a fun time last night for sure.
After last night, I'd fight alongside Hort and Big O anyday. :)

I hope you played against real people, Phan. The single player AI is absolutely horrid.
I have never played anything but multi with it. I enjoy it immensly.

Last night was much fun. I haven't had coordination like that in a good long time. F7 was right, Hort, F7 and myself worked really well together. That's my kind of game night.
The teamplay makes it all happen. I still play UT and after playing a couple hours of BF I jumped into an UT game and it seemed like a kindergarden class 10 seconds after the teacher left. The UT game was plenty fast, but it almost seemed pointless - no coordination, no team, just a free for all.

The DC Mod makes all the difference... i would play BF1942 if it wasnt for DC Mod...
yo!
Always remember what Yogi said, "90% of the game is half mental." :moon:

I like both Battlefield 1942 and Desert Combat, and will happily play either on a good server with a couple of people I know.
1942 is slower and I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing.
If nothing else, 1942 doesn't have @$#&%! helicopters.
No frills BF1942 is definately slower. For one thing; on average, you live longer. :p Everything is harder to kill.
Believe it or not, I prefer standard BF1942.

Me too F7. It's not just that stuff is harder to kill, although it is...you just don't get such massive barrage attacks. Airplanes drop one, maybe two, bombs at a time. Artillery fires once every 3 or 4 seconds. The rocket trucks and fire 6 shot salvos, vs 40.
It's also easier to defend, although some of that is a function of the number of players on the server and how well they work together. The helicopters in DC allow a much larger force to drop into an area, while in BF the planes can only carry one or two. Also, they aren't as fast, so if you White Flag a base, you don't usually have planes screaming in to stop you. There's a chance to set a defense. In DC, you had better have back up, or kill everything around you before you White Flag a base, because YOU WILL BE COUNTERATTACKED...unless of course there are some jerks are camping the opposing team base (you'll find I reserve a special place in Hell for base campers...run in and steal a tank, fine, but then get out...spawn campers suck). :moon:
