View Full Version : practice multiplayer in single?
just wondered if there is a way to do above mentioned, most maps only show up in multiplayer.
I just got a joystick and want to practice flying choppers and such in some of the maps that i play on all the time without hurting my teamates

Yes, create your own local multi game. Put the respawn timer down to 3 seconds and 0 bots. I do this when I actually do find some time to practice flying.
When I got my joysick (all the way back in January 2004) I started a single player game and played Kharkov over and over for about 2 sessions of about 4 hours each. I think it's better to learn how to fly a chopper when you're under fire (and it also gives you something to fire at).
Here's a hint for learning how to fly. Set your control assignments, start game, fly full out and crash into everything. Throttle up full and spin the copter like a top. Spin wildly out of control as fast as you can and crash. Crash into everything. Try to fly upside down (my favorite).
Sounds kooky, huh? But after 45 minutes of that you'll start to know the limitations of the beast. You'll know what you can't do which will define what you can do. This is kinda like the Suzuki method where you hand a 2 year old a violin and let them just saw away on it and then after 6 months (once they have a feel for it) you teach them a scale.
Also, little copters are the hardest to fly because the slightest touch will send them off in a direction. The bigger the copter the more sluggish. Also, the big transport copters are the easiest to land. Play Kharkov because it has nothing but small choppers and they are the most agile and hardest to fly. Then play something like Wake and fly the larger copters to get a feel for those.
One more thing, copters handle much better offline, so depending on your connection the online flying will always be much more sluggish.
Oh, and Welcome to GA.
