When your comp bluescreens, is there a log or some-such that will help me figure out the cause?

Easiest way is to use BlueScreenView (free, 32 bit only)

If that doesn't work, I think you can type "perfmon /rel" at a command prompt or run box. You may need to run this as an administrator though.

Thanks. perfmon /rel doesn't log this cause (L4D). And I need 64 bit.

I updated the video drivers but then crashed this morning. I need to get some air and thoroughly blow out the dust. Fans are all running and temps seem OK.

Is it only L4D crashing?

Yup.

I was on with Valis/Scalar the night you filled in and I guess others were crashing too so it may have been the server. But I've crashed 2-3 times elsewhere.

Heres a response I ran across ..
Display Mode -> Select Windowed (No Border)
Multicore rendering -> select Disabled.

With this video setting, it does help to solve Left 4 Dead crash on my case. Hopefully, it will help you too. No worry about the Windowed (No Border) mode. It look alike like Full Screen mode.

Time to kill those zombies. :)

Interesting- that actually dropped my performance overall... and eventually crashed.

I blew out the dust... still crashed. Temps seem OK and were unchanged after the dusting.
