Well... I've gone and crossed over to the darkside of playing BF1942. Loaded things up but I've got a question.

Where do I start?! lol Is there an order of patches I should download? and if there is, is there a special way to install them?

I'm going to practise by playing one player and get the hang of things. I just want to be set up and ready to roll if I ever get online. lol

~Airlea~ :naughty:

First off, you will want the BF1942 1.5 patch, which you can get HERE (http://www.gamingasylum.net/file.php?id=168)

That will get you by for the single player and regular BF stuff. Then you will want to get Desert Combat installed. It does not really have any single player stuff, and is what we are running on our game server right now. Use the version 5L full installer, and then patch that to version .6F

You'll need to upgrade BF1942. I think the newest patch is 1.5 and that's for BF.

Then you'll new to load the Desert Combat mod. You want the .6 DC mod. You might be able to find a .6 full install. If you can't find a full then I think there is a .5L full and then a second patch which is .5L to .6f.

Then read some of the older threads here for some tips. Also, the server is quiet several times a day, so you can probably find somebody to jump onto Team speak and show you some things online.

Start BF, go to multiplayer and then click "Add Server" and type in the Asylum address and you're in like Flynn. You need to capture flags by staying close to them for about 10 seconds. The longer the flag is your teams color the better.

Get used to the basics, adjust your controls, learn how to drive vehicles and try different weapons (each time you respawn you can pick sniper, assault, support... and this gives you a different set of weapons and tools -- and you can choose a different spawn point - whatever is lit up on the map).

Get used to the basics and then you can move up to more advanced techniques like spawncamping and laying mines for MadMikey. :)

Don't rush head on into any flag point - you will die, and the enemy will still have the point. Flank, be sneaky, use a tank...or something.

Martha says C4 is a good thing.

w00t Airlea :)

Learn a few basic things (crouching & being prone) and then buddy up with someone to see how to be in the game. It does work.

Tanks are fun as they give you The Power. If you can't aim the gun just RUN the enemy over..got to love the squishing part..hehe.

Our server addy is 66.98.160.70 (I don't think you'll need the :14567, it's usualy already there)

And the default for 'reload' is 'r'...use it liberally.

You won't live long enough to use all the ammo anyway :)

Teamspeak is the best way to get info during the game ('cause it takes a long time to type "see the brown tank thing, not the big tank but the one next to it... the one with the big tube on top" in chat :)). Send a PM to Inkswitch to get access to the TS server. Sobe and I are usually on TS when playing on the server and other forum regs drop in from time to time.

Cheers,
Salyavin

Edit: Think I found the server but now when it loads it says "invalid cd-key" !

*sigh*

edit again: Ummm... ok.. weird stuff here.. I see myself in the server but I'm not playing... lol the game isn't even loaded up and running!!! :p

Hmm...perhaps someone is using your cd-key? You might also use the BFM8 launcher (available here on GA and on my site), which makes joining BF servers a little easier.

I dont know how you could have typed in the cd-key wrong and have installed BF.

It's not Airlea. That CD-key thing has happened to me, too. Somebody is using your key. Unfortunately, there is not much you can do about it but wait. Once he tries to play while your playing, he will move on to another key.

Ouch..what a bad person for doing that to Airlea, use your magic & zap him into the spam zone

You can find us by name too DC .6 by GamingAsylum.net, but the first way is best.

Well to be honest it's not their fault. The key that I plugged in was from a copy that was given to me. Didn't even occur to me that I wouldn't be able to use the same key.

I'll uninstall it and try something to get me back up and going. :D

I'm totally going to burn in hell. :moon:

~Airlea~ At least I'll get a good tan.
